Jordan Yates scored a goal in the opening four minutes of the game off an assist from
Riley Zitar, but Stevens Institute of Technology responded with a goal one minute later as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team opened up the 2025 season with a 1-1 tie on Friday at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
CMS moves to 0-0-1 to start the year, while Stevens also sits at 0-0-1 to start the season.
Yates scored her third career goal and Zitar picked up right where she left off after tallying a career-best nine assists in 2024 for CMS.
Sadie Brown recorded five saves on the day for the Athenas, including a diving stop in the 28th minute, Kenny Donley tallied eight saves for the Ducks.

Sierra Troy and Yates each had two shots on goal to help CMS control a 12-5 shot advantage.
Sena Howell had a shot on goal in the 79th minute but it was saved by Donley, as neither team was unable to break the 1-1 tie.
The Athenas will be back in action on Sunday when they complete their two-game road trip, meeting New York University for a 9:15 a.m. contest.
