Stags Soccer Draws La Sierra in Home Opener 1-1

CLAREMONT, Calif - Gray Mollenkamp scored a first-half goal seven minutes after La Sierra had taken the lead as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon at Pritzlaff Field.

With the tie, CMS moves to 1-3-1 on the year after playing its first four games on the road, while La Sierra moves to 1-0-1.

The tying goal came as Sean Lee took a pass just outside the top of the 18 and played a through ball into the left side of the box. Bo Gardner ran onto the back end of it, and one-timed a cross to the far post. Mollenkamp sprinted in, and volleyed in a finish inside the top of the six to level the score at 1-1.

CMS had a couple of good chances early in the second half, but John Laidlaw had his shot saved out for a corner kick, and then had his ensuing shot off a Zeno Bang saved again by Golden Eagles goalie Abraham Perez.

Daniel Kotkosky that had a pair of big saves late to preserve the 1-1 tie for CMS, sandwiched around Ian Rodriguez saving a shot off the line destined for an empty net.

Kotkosky finished with seven saves, while Perez had nine for La Sierra.

CMS will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Bethesda at 4 p.m.
