CLAREMONT, Calif. - Despite a 23-6 edge in shot attempts, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 tie with Bethesda University on Sunday afternoon at Pritzlaff Field in the team's final tune-up before SCIAC play begins this week.
With the tie, CMS moves to 1-3-2 on the season, while Bethesda now stands at 0-4-1 on the year with the draw.
Gabriel Vieria had an 11-save shutout for the Flames to help his team come away with a tie.
Henry Otte started and had one first-half save for the Stags, while
Lucius Ng had a save in relief, a big save on a dangerous shot inside the box from Eric Nshimiyimana midway through the second half to keep the game scoreless.
CMS had a goal called back in the first half for offside off a corner kick, as
Atticus English was able to get to a loose ball inside the six and slot it home with Vieria off his line.
Paxton Greene had several strong bids for the Stags, as did
Matteo Quadrini, who barely missed wide of the left post with a diving header in the first half.
Leica Yasukawa was a late substitution for CMS and was dangerous int he final 20 minutes, but had three shot attempts saved by Vieria.
English and
Trusten Lehmann-Karp played all 90 minutes on the CMS back four to help the Stags to the shutout, as did defensive midfielder
Ben Bacdayan.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it faces Whittier in its SCIAC opener.
