CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Sean Lee gave the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer a 1-0 lead in the first half with a 25-yard rocket into the upper-left corner, but Cal Lutheran was able to come away with a 2-1 win on Saturday evening at Pritzlaff Field.
With the win, Cal Lutheran improves to 2-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the SCIAC, while CMS slips to 1-4-3 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
Lee scored the game's first goal when
Eric Grossman-Glover slotted a 20-yard pass to him outside the top of the penalty area. Lee moved to his right, and then let loose with a right-footed blast that went straight into the upper-left corner at the 19:27 mark.
Cal Lutheran was able to knot the score up just four minutes later when Max Scott scored on a counter. Then, with 13:50 to go, Kane Reese broke the tie with a volley from inside the box.
Daniel Kotkosky kept CMS in it with three saves in the final 10 minutes, and the Stags threatened in the closing late, but had their two shot attempts from the top of the box blocked.
CMS finished with a 15-12 edge in shots and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks. Kotkosky ended with five saves for the Stags while Isaak Tanaka had four for Cal Lutheran.
The Stags will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer at 4 p.m.
