CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team got off to a strong start to the new campaign, compiling a combined 23-1 record in singles and a 9-4 record in doubles at the season-opening CMS/Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Friday and Saturday. 

CMS competed against five schools from all three divisions over the course of the two-day event, facing Division I CSU Nortridge, Division II Biola, Azusa Pacific and Westmont and Division III UC Santa Cruz.

First-years Ananya Sriniketh (2-0 singles, 4-0 doubles), and Shifali Dinesh (2-0 singles, 2-0 doubles) started out their careers in successful fashion, with Leah Baroudi (3-0), Macy Garwood (3-0), Georgia Garrett (2-2), and Rachel Garton (2-0) each going undefeated in singles. 

The only singles defeat came in a match against Division I CSUN, as well as one of the doubles defeats. Sophomore Emily Ing won both of her singles matches 6-0, 6-0, while Dinesh added a 6-0, 6-0 win as well. Bell Zhou was 4-0 on the weekend (2-0 in singles, 2-0 doubles). 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it co-hosts the ITA West Regionals.
