CLAREMONT, Calif. - Hannah Hong scored on a counter with 3:46 left in regulation to give the ninth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday evening at Pritzlaff Field.
The Sagehens remain undefeated with the win at 6-0-1, and move to 2-0-1 in SCIAC. The Athenas slip to 6-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the league with the loss.
Sadie Brown had eight saves for the Athenas to nearly get the shutout, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to go end to end and finish with Hong tucking a shot just inside the far post from the right edge of the penalty area.
Hadley Johnson had six saves in the second half for Pomona-Pitzer, denying
Riley Zitar,
Cate Lewison,
Flora Glantz and
Frankie Fragola,
Preslie Lampitt and
Carmel Randolph before the go-ahead goal from the Sagehens. Fragola and Randolph each had two shots saved in the game, including ones in the first half saved by starter Patricia DiPalma.
Shots were an even 15-15 in the game, while the Athenas held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
