Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Athenas Soccer Strikes Early, Often in 4-0 Win over Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jordan Yates scored the first of her two goals 28 seconds into the game as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Redlands in heavy rain at Pritzlaff Field on Saturday evening.

With the win, CMS improves to 7-2-1 on the year, including 2-2 in conference play, while Redlands slips to 0-6-2 on the year with the loss.

Cate Lewison had a goal and two assists, delivering a perfect cross to Yates in the opening seconds of the game. Yates crashed into the inside of the six-yard box, and volleyed the ball out of the air and inside the left post to make the score 1-0.

The Athenas extended their lead to 2-0 in the final minutes of the half off a corner kick, as Elsie Lindeman bent a serve inside the top of the six-yard box, where Sierra Troy was able to find space between Redlands defenders and head the ball inside the right post to give the Athenas an insurance goal.

Lewison extended the lead to 3-0 just over 10 minutes into the second half on a counter, when she made a long run up the center of the field, and then cut back with an inside-out dribble at the top of the 18-yard box, before slotting a low, hard shot into the net.

Lewison then assisted Yates for the second time in the game with just under 13 minutes to go, as she had a hit-ahead pass into space, before Yates was able to get the ball on her right foot, and blast a rocket into the upper-right corner, giving her seven goals on the year.

Sadie Brown had four saves for the Athenas, including a big diving stop in the first half to keep the game 1-0. CMS held a 35-7 edge in shots for the game, as Shannon Stewart finished with 10 saves for the Bulldogs.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. road game at Chapman.
