REDLANDS, Calif. -
Atticus English and
Paxton Greene scored their first career goals as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team picked up its first SCIAC win of the year with a dominant 2-0 win over Redlands on Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field.
The Stags outshot Redlands 21-3 on the day as they improve to 2-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the SCIAC with the win, while Redlands slips to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the SCIAC with the loss.
English opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a great individual effort, weaving through traffic in the penalty area with a pair of cutbacks, before finding room for a 10-yard strike inside the right post.
That goal held up into the closing minutes, when he played a short ball to his left to Greene, who hit a one-timer from just outside the penalty area with his left foot that tucked inside the right post to make it 2-0 with just 3:36 to play.
Miles Demarest made one first-half to get the shutout. The Bulldogs managed just two second half shots in the final six minutes, both of which went high, including one off a corner kick in the closing seconds.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it returns home to face Chapman for a 7 p.m. contest.
