CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Brannan Rosenfeld of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week award for events through Sunday, Sept. 28, the conference office announced today.
Rosenfeld had a huge leap forward to move into the top five for the Athenas and score for the first time in her cross country career at the UC Riverside Invitational with a 21:06.6. She took over a minute off of her personal best for a 6K race, set last year at the UCR Invite (22:11.0), and vaulted into 11th place in CMS history, while also finishing 35th out of 219 runners. Her efforts helped CMS to a fourth-place finish out of 24 teams, 14 of which were Division I.
It marks the third time in three races that the Athenas have had the cross country athlete of the week from the SCIAC.
Riley Capuano won it after each of the first two races, a first-place finish at the Coyote Challenge, and a second-place finish at the Division III Pre-Nationals. Capuano also won the national Division III Athlete of the Week award today from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after finishing 10th at UC Riverside.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it competes at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
