CLAREMONT, Calif. - The second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team rested the runners who competed at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals two weeks ago in Spartanburg, and still earned a sixth-place finish out of 19 teams at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
Hope Dragseth ran a 22:04.4 to finish 10th out of 222 runners and move into 39th place all time at CMS for a 6K race.
Sally Gaskell came in 22nd with a 22:32.4 and
Mia Voce was in the top 30 with a 22:38.2, finishing 27th.
Earning spots in the top 50 for the Athenas were
Revere Schmidt in 42nd, Talia Green in 45th,
Olivia DeBoer in 49th and
Phoebe Wolfe Lyons in 50th.
Sophie Saleh (54th) ,
Skye Georgiadis (67th),
Rosemary McManus (84th),
Chloe Gudas (88th), Mikalya Wesley (91st) and
Raquel Flores (97th) were in the top 100.
CMS sent eight runners to compete at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals two weeks ago, including
Riley Capuano,
Elle Marsyla,
Sadie Drucker,
Sara Wexler, and
Olivia Backholm, who have competed for the Athenas at the NCAA Championships in previous years. The entire team competed last week at the UC Riverside Invitational, and the runners who went to Spartanburg sat out this week to recover and gear up for the stretch run in November.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks, when some of the team will travel to the Connecticut College Invitational, and others will go to the UC Riverside Highlander Classic, before competing at the SCIAC Championships at Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 1.
