GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team held a 14-4 edge in shots, but Gettsyburg was able to convert on a penalty kick early in the second half to take a 1-0 win over the Stags on Sunday.
With the loss, CMS drops to 1-3 on the year, while Gettysburg improves to 3-1 with the win.
The Stags held a 10-0 advantage in shots in the first half, but Sean Kennedy made three first half saves to keep the game scoreless. Just 7:29 into the second half, Julius Rigo converted from the spot for the only goal of the contest.
Two minutes later,
James Gomez had a bid for a tying goal saved by Kennedy for a corner kick. Gomez had another shot saved by Kennedy with 18 minutes left, but the Gettysburg defense was able to hold the Stags without another attempt down the stretch.
John Laidlaw and
Collin Ross each led CMS with three shot attempts.
Miles Demarest had two second half saves in goal for the Stags.
CMS will be back in action on Thursday for its home opener against La Sierra at 4:30 p.m.
