CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Riley Capuano of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week award for events through Sunday, Sept. 7, the conference office announced today.
Capuano earned the individual title at the Coyote Challenge, while helping the Athenas to a dominant win with 18 points, in her return to the program after studying abroad in the spring. Her 17:53.3 was her top career time in a 5K cross country race and gave her a seven-second margin of victory (over teammate
Elle Marsyla) and a 13-second margin over the top runner from another school (Ania Kapustka of Concordia Irvine).
Capuano earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Year honor a year ago after winning the league championship and helping the Athenas to their 14th team title in a row. She went on to earn All-America honors for the second straight season as well.
CMS will be back in action on Sept. 20, when it competes at the Division III Pre-Nationals in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
