CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Sean Lee converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to break a 1-1 tie as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team earned a 2-1 road win over La Verne on Saturday.
With the win, CMS now stands at 5-3-3 overall and an even 2-2-2 in the SCIAC, while La Verne is also now 2-2-2 in league play and 4-3-4 overall.
CMS took a 1-0 lead just 3:32 into the second half when
Matteo Quadrini scored after
James Gomez had his initial shot saved. La Verne answered at the 61:42 mark, and
Collin Ross nearly put CMS back in front five minutes later, but his shot hit off the post.
However, after the Leopards received a red card in the 69th minute, Lee converted from the spot after a La Verne foul in the box at the 71:47 mark for the winning goal.
CMS held an 18-7 edge in shots overall and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
Axel Jimenez earned the win in goal, making one save.
The Stags will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Caltech for a 7 p.m. contest.
