CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Sarah Press and
Kate Larson each had four goals, and
Ella Seidel and
Amelia Ulmer added three, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team opened the 2026 season with a 26-3 win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.
Julia Ryan, who led the nation in draw controls last year, started off the 2026 season with 21, while a total of 12 different players had goals for CMS.
Lyla Johnston had three saves to get the win in goal, while
Ava Goldson had a team-high four assists.
Amelia Ulmer opened the scoring just 30 seconds in, which was followed by goals from
Hannah Conte,
Maya Mihara and
Kit Haggard, before Ulmer netted her second at the 12:06 mark to give CMS a 5-0 lead less than three minutes in.
Cal Lutheran responded with goals from Josie Oparanaku and Madison Soforenko to close to 5-2, but CMS went on another 5-0 run, with
Elsa Ceridono starting it with her first collegiate goal, and Haggard capping it off with her second.
The Regals made it 10-3 to end the first quarter, but did not score again, as the Athenas scored the final 16 goals in succession. Larson had two goals in a 5-0 second quarter, and added two more in a 7-0 third quarter that made the score 22-3. Press scored her fourth on a free position shot to end the scoring with 57 seconds left.
Haggard, Mihara, Ceridono and
Summer Matsik each scored two goals for the Athenas, while Ryan,
Hannah Conte,
Eleanor Shen and
Stella Hansot added a goal apiece.
CMS will be back in action next Wednesday when it faces Bates at 7 p.m.
