CLAREMONT, Calif. - Seven swimmers from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team earned NCAA qualifications and will attend the NCAA Division III Championships from March 18-21 in Indianapolis.

Katy Shaw will attend nationals in their final collegiate seasons, while sophomore
Avalon Sanders and first-year
Elyse Newlands will also represent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Byun, Kan, Mayfield and Newlands all qualified to swim in three individual events apiece. Byun will take part in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM, Kan will swim the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, Mayfield will swim in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM, and Newlands will represent CMS in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. Shaw also qualified for the 1650 in the fourth season in a row.
CMS has the most scoring potentital in the 100 fly, where Byun has the third-fastest time in the country (a CMS record 54.22), and Kan has the fourth (54.30 to win the SCIAC title). Byun is also tied as the No. 4 seed in the 200 fly (a CMS record 2:01.01 to win the SCIAC title), with Mayfield seeded No. 13. Kan is the No. 9 seed in the 100 free and the No. 11 seed in the 50 free, while Shaw is seeded No. 13 in the 1650.
In the relays, Byun (400 free, 800 free, 200 medley and 400 medley), Sharma (200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, 400 medley), and Kan will compete in four relays (200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, 400 medley). Newlands (200 free, 200 medley, 400 medley) and Mayfield (200 free, 400 free, 800 free) will compete in three, while Sanders and Shaw will be part of the 800 free relay.
CMS also has podium potential in several relays, as it is seeded No. 6 in the 200 medley relay, No. 8 in the 400 medley relay, No. 11 in the 800 free relay, No. 15 in the 400 free relay, and No. 19 in the 200 free relay.
The Athena divers will be in action this weekend at regional qualifiers at Emory, to try to add more competitors for CMS in Indianapolis.
Meilan Uyeno will try to return after qualifying a year ago, while first-year
Simone Sabeeh, the SCIAC Diver of the Year, and
Josie Kearns will try to qualify as well.
