CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Kaden Cassidy broke 200 feet in the hammer throw, and the distance medley relay team of
Jonas Rickert,
Richard Burrow,
Ellis DelVecchio and
Hayden Beauchemin broke the program record in the distance medley relay to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team at its host Rossi Relays.
Cassidy won the hamer with a distance of 202'2" (61.63 meters) putting him over 200 feet already this season. He finished second at nationals a year ago at 210 feet, which was the No. 16 throw in Division III history.
Kavin Prasanna also came in third with a throw of 179'2" (54.61 meters).
The DMR team gave Division I Pepperdine a good battle, breaking 10 minutes in hot conditions to record a time of 9:56.68, to eclipse the previous program record of 10:03.10, which had held since 2015 (Molineux-Hightower-Jones-Sealand). The Waves barely edged out the Stags in 9:54.18.
Aiden Owens was 12th in the 100-meter dash in 10.85 seconds, just off his best time of 10.82. Owens also led off a sprint medley relay of
Dylan Dimond,
Max Even and
Jaden Rattay that finished in 1:31.51, which would have broken a meet record, except that Azusa Pacific (1:29.48) and Biola (1:29.52) were even faster.
The 4x400 relay of Even, Owen Thompson,
Ellis DelVecchio and Rattay finished in 3:14.12 to come in third place, and recording the seventh-best time in CMS history.
Grady Johnson was sixth in the shot put for CMS at 14.43 meters (47'4.25"), while
Aidan Cho was ninth.
Blaze Hedani was eighth in the discus at 44 meters even (144'4").
CMS will be back in action next weekend at the first SCIAC Quad Meet, hosted by Occidental on Saturday at 10 a.m.
