REDLANDS, Calif. -
Kaden Cassidy had a distance of 213 feet, three inches in the hammer throw, breaking his own CMS record which he set last year and moving into the top ten (ninth) in Division III history, to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team at the Redlands Invitational on Friday.
Cassidy's old CMS record was 210 feet even, set at the NCAA Division III Championships last year, when he finished second. Eric Flores of Cal Lutheran holds the all-time record set at the USA Track and Field Championships in 2010 (231 feet, one inch).
Jaden Rattay also nearly broke the CMS record in the 400 meters, moving up to second all-time with a 47.06 to come in second place at the meet.
Ryan Martin holds the Stag mark with a 46.95, set in 2006. Coming into the day, Rattay's top time had been a 48.21, set last year.
Max Even moved up from tenth to fourth in CMS history in the 200 meters with a 21.35, which placed him fifth at the Redlands Invitational, while Rattay was eighth in 21.76.
Aiden Owens also set a PR in the 100 meters with a 10.66, which moves him up from 10th all-time at CMS up to seventh, while
Eric Filson ran a 10.79 to move into tenth place at CMS.
The Stag 4x400 relay team of Even,
Richard Burrow, Owens and Rattay finished first with a time of 3:15.15.
Colin Lakkaraju was the second-place finisher in the triple jump with a distance of 45'1",
Cian Bryant was second in the javelin at 171'7", Kacin Prasanna was third in the hammer behind Cassidy at 182 feet even,
Diego Amescua finished fourth in the pole vault at 14 feet, 5 1/4 inches, while
Jack Paavola was fifth in the discus throw at 149'5".
CMS will be back in action next weekend when it hosts a SCIAC Quad Cup on Saturday at 2 p.m.
