Shue Helps Stags Baseball Win Series With Chapman

AZUSA, Calif. - Jett Shue broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out RBI double, and Max Pemberton followed with a two-run double as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned an 8-6 win over Chapman in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Azusa Pacific, adther the Panthers took the opener 8-5.

With the win, CMS now stands at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC after taking 2-1 series wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Occidental and Chapman in the early part of the 2026 season.

CMS was up 3-0 early on a Carter Bennett RBI single in the first, a Bryce Didrickson solo homer in the third, and a Dillon Martin RBI single in the third.

After Chapman knotted it up with a three-run homer, Alex Henderson answered in the bottom of the fifth, and Shue had a solo homer in the sixth to make it 5-3. The Panthers again tied it 5-5, but Shue came through with a go-ahead double.

Parker McGraw threw the final 2.1 innings of relief to get the win for CMS. Martin was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Shue, Didrickson and Henderson each had two hits.

In the first game, Chapman went ahead 6-0 before CMS came back with five runs in the sixth, keyed by a three-run homer from Bennett. Rider Gordon had a two-run single to make it 6-2, before Bennett got the Stags back within a single run.

Bennett ended the game 2-for-3 with a walk, while Didrickson was 2-for-4.

CMS will back in action next weekend at APU for a four-game series with Whitworth, including a single game on Friday, a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
