CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Jasmine Tang had three goals, and six other Athenas had two, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned an 18-4 win over La Verne in its home opener on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.
With the win, CMS improves to 4-6 on the season and levels its record at 1-1 in the SCIAC.
CMS was never threatened as it jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and led 11-1 at the half. Tang had two straight goals to stretch the lead to 5-0 in the first, after
Caitlin Muñoz,
Grace Clark and
Isabel Del Villar started the scoring, and
Fiona Murphy capped off the first quarter with a goal to make it 6-0.
Valerie Wraith and Clark scored two straight goals to push the lead to 8-0 before La Verne got on the board, and Murphy,
Jordan LaCour and
Tatum Dwyer finished off the half with goals.
Murphy, LaCour, Wraith, Clark, Dwyer and
Christina Marlow all had two goals for CMS, while
Jayden Ching had two assists.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Caltech on Wednesday.
