Christina Marlow had four goals, and
Valerie Wraith,
Grace Clark and
Caitlin Muñoz each added three as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned an 18-4 win over Occidental on Wednesday evening at Axelrood Pool.
With the win, CMS, ranked No. 2 in Division III, improves to 7-9 on the season and 3-1 in the SCIAC, while No. 6 Occidental slips to 2-3 in conference play.
Clark added a team-high four assists to her three goal total.
Isabel Del Villar had two goals and five steals for the Athenas, while
Natalie Stearns had nine saves to get the win in net.
The score was tied 2-2 with four minutes left in the first after the second goal from Isabella Wide of Occidental, but the Athenas were able to score the next ninegoals to pull away.
Clark gave the Athenas the lead for good with 3:01 left in the first quarter, and Marlow followed with two straight goals to make it 5-2. Muñoz then closed out the first quarter with goals at the 1:00 and 0:26 mark to make it a 7-2 lead heading into the second.
Fiona Murphy scored the only goal of the second quarter for CMS to make the score 8-2 going into the half, and Wraith scored the first two goals of the second half.
Tatum Dwyer finished off the 9-0 run with a goal for the Athenas.
CMS will be next be in action when it hosts Chapman on Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest.
