TUCSON, Ariz. -
Alex Henderson was 3-for-4 with three RBI, and
Rider Gordon was 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened up the Tucson Invitational Games with a 14-1 win over Hamline on Friday.
Kody Perry allowed no runs for the fourth time this season, allowing four hits and striking out seven in five innings of work to get the win for CMS, which moves to 10-4 on the year with the win.
Gordon gave CMS a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single to score Henderson. The Stags added two more in the third, when Henderson had an RBI double to score
Blaise Heher, and then came home on an RBI single from
Dillon Martin.
Henderson added another RBI double in the fourth, this time driving in two, to make it 6-0, and traded places with Gordon, who drove him in with a double for a 7-0 lead.
Cruz Wexler had an RBI single to make it 9-0, before
Bryce Didrickson hit a three-run homer in the fifth to make it 12-0 and help enforce the 10-run rule.
Keegan Cabrera added an RBI double in the sixth, and
Austin Xu followed with an RBI single to give CMS a 14-0 lead, before Hamline broke the shutout with a run in the seventh.
The Stags will continue play at the Tucson Invitational Games tomorrow with games against Aurora and Mississippi University for Women, before closing out with Carthage on Sunday and Crown on Monday.
