CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Josh Kim of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, March 15, the conference office announced today.
Kim was 2-0 in singles as CMS swept No. 7 Bowdoin (4-3) and No. 25 Haverford (5-2) in its two matches on Friday. Kim started the comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Bowdoin with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to help swing the momentum, and then moved up to the No. 1 line in the Haverford match and picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win.
Remarkably, Kim becomes the fifth different Stag to win the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor in the last five weeks, as the Stags have started out the year 13-0 and ascended to the No. 1 spot in the national rankings.
Sibi Raja earned it last week after winning the clinching point in a 4-3 win over Biola in a battle of unbeatens,
Warren Pham earned the honor two weeks ago on March 2 after a 4-0 day in wins over UC Santa Cruz and Ventura College,
Henry Wilson picked it up on Feb. 23 after going 3-0 in singles to help CMS to the ITA Indoor Championship, and
Advik Mareedu won it on Feb. 16 after CMS got off to a 4-0 start on opening weekend.
CMS will return to action this weekend when it co-hosts the Stag-Hen Invitational, beginning with a match against Trinity on Friday at 10 a.m.
