Joshua Lewis allowed just one hit in five shutout innings of work for his first collegiate win, and
Carter Bennett hit a grand slam to key the offense, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team finished its five-game trip to the Tucson Invitational Games with a 13-0 win over Crown College on Monday.
Max Pemberton batted 3-for-3 to complete a weekend in which he hit 12-for-17 (.706) with 11 RBI to help the Stags to a 5-0 record, as they improve to 14-4 on the season.
Lewis started and did not allow a hit until a two-out double in the fourth, before getting the ensuing out. He threw to two batters over the minimum in his five innings, striking out six and walking one.
Brady Monaghan threw the sixth and
Vitaly DiBlasi the seventh, as the three pitchers combined on a one-hitter.
Pemberton started the scoring in the second inning with an RBI singles, which was followed by an RBI single from
Jett Shue, a two-run single from
Blaise Heher and a sacrifice fly from
Alex Henderson as CMS took a 5-0 lead.
Shue had a sacrifice fly in the third, and Bennett went yard with the bases loaded in the fourth to make it 10-0.
Rider Gordon capped off a three-run fifth with an RBI triple to make the final 13-0.
Dillon Martin was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Gordon and
Bryce Didrickson were each 2-for-4, and Heher was 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI.
CMS will be back in action this weekend when it returns to SCIAC play for a three-game series with Redlands, beginning with a single game at Azusa Pacific on Friday at 3 p.m.
