McMINNIVILLE, Ore. -
Alex Wedemeyer hit a two-run single to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team a 3-0 lead in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Linfield, but the No. 7 WIldcats were able to respond with 11 unanswered runs to complete a sweep on Monday evening.
Linfield also won the opener 7-0 as it improves to 12-2 on the year with the two wins. CMS falls to 7-6-1 with the two losses.
Tyler McNeeley threw a one-hit shutout for Linfield in the first game, striking out seven, and walking one.
Rachel Sapirstein spoiled the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the fifth, but McNeeley was able to induce two popups and a strikeout to leave pinch-runner
Hina Usuda stranded on first.
The nightcap saw the Athenas offense rejuvenated early, with three runs in the opening frame.
Delanie Stevens led off with a single, and
Avia Tuguldur coaxed a walk after fouling off five straight 3-2 pitches. Sapirstein then doubled down the line to plate Stevens, and Wedemeyer followed with a two-run single.
In the bottom of the second, though, the Wildcats were able to push across six runs to move in front. In the bottom of the fifth, Linfield strung together four straight two-out hits to score three more runs and enforce the eight-run rule.
CMS will continue its Oregon trip on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Willamette, before closing out with a twinbill against George Fox on Wednesday.
