Athenas Softball Drops Doubleheader to George Fox to Close Out Spring Break Trip

NEWBERG, Ore. - Delanie Stevens was 4-for-7 in the doubleheader, including 3-for-4 in the nightcap, but the George Fox softball team was able to take both ends of the twinbill with a 7-0 win in the opener and a 3-2 win in the second contest on Wednesday evening.

The losses drop CMS to 9-8-1 on the season, while Geogre Fox improves to 6-6.

Stevens led off the third inning of the nightcap and moved to second on a Giselle Lai single. After Rachel Sapirstein sacrificed the runner over, an error brought home Stevens, and Robel followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

George Fox responded with three runs in the bottom half, but Perri Derian was able to keep the Bruins at three runs the rest of the way out of the bullpen. Stevens then had a one-out single in the seventh to put the tying run on, but the Bruins were able to get out of the jam and finish off the win.

Robel was 2-for-2 with an RBI, as she and Stevens combined for five of the six Athena hits. Derian pitched four innings and allowed three hits and no runs.

Nicole Ledendecker threw a four-hit shutout for George Fox in the opening game, with Stevens, Lai, Avia Tuguldur and Megan Kho each recording singles.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts SUNY-Oneonta for a non-conference doubleheader at 12 noon.
