THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -
Isabel Del Villar had three goals and two assists to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team to a 12-4 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, CMS improves to 10-10 on the season, including 6-1 in conference play. Cal Lutheran came into the day tied with the Athenas in the SCIAC standings, but drop to 5-2 in league contests with the loss.
Del Villar had all three of her goals in the first half to stake CMS to a 5-1 halftime lead. Del Villar and
Valerie Wraith had both Athena goals in the first quarter, and Del Villar scored twice around a goal from
Pooja Bucklin to make it 5-1 heading in the break.
Jordan LaCour opened the second half with a goal, and
Fiona Murphy followed with another to make it 7-1.
Grace Rich answered a Cal Lutheran goal to make it 8-2 after three. In the fourth, LaCour and Wraith added their second goals, and
Sydney Kroonen scored twice to make it a 12-4 final.
Natalie Stearns allowed just four goals and had nine saves to get the win in goal.
Caitlin Muñoz had five steals and three assists, both team highs.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Redlands on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. contest.
