CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Grace Minturn and
Kate Larson each had four goals, and
Amelia Ulmer added three goals and four assists as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team captured a 21-5 win over Occidental on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.
With the win, CMS moves to 4-1 on the season, including 3-0 in the SCIAC, while Occidental falls to 1-3, all of which have been in league play.
The Athenas took an 8-0 lead in just over eight minutes (8:06), as Larson had a hat trick in the stretch, including the ginal goal with 6:54 left in the first. Occidental answered back with three goals in a row to close to 8-3, but Ulmer closed out the first quarter with a goal, and
Ella Brown scored twice in the second quarter to help CMS to an 11-4 lead at the break.
CMS then scored the first five goals in the second half to pull away, with Minturn scoring three of them, with Mihara and Larson adding the others.
Julia Ryan had 17 draw controls for the Athenas, while
Maya Mihara had a hat trick,
Cate Lewison had two goals, an assist and three caused turnovers, and
Ava Goldson had three assists.
Lyla Johnston had five saves in goal to get the win, while Rubi Maki had three caused turnovers and
Ava Marra had two to help the Athenas defensive effort.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer at 11 a.m. at Zinda Field in a battle of SCIAC unbeatens.
