CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team moved up to No. 1 in the latest Division III national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
CMS now stands at 9-0 on the year, including 5-0 against Division III competition, which involves a key 3-0 sweep on its way to the ITA Indoor Championship on the weekend of Feb. 20-22. CMS opened with a 5-2 win over Swarthmore in the first round, and then defeated Case Western 5-2 in the semifinals, avenging a defeat in last year's NCAA Semifinals. The Stags then finished off the title with a 4-1 win over Chicago.
Henry Wilson was 3-0 in singles for the Stags at the ITA Indoors, earning him the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor.
Warren Pham had the clincher in the title win over Chicago, and earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week on Monday after going 4-0 in a Saturday sweep of UC Santa Cruz and Ventura.
Advik Mareedu, who was 41-1 in singles last year (36-0 in DIII) and won both the ITA Cup and NCAA singles title, has also been the SCIAC Athlete of the Week this season for the Stags.
CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to Biola on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and then returns home to face Westmont at 5 p.m.
