Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team defeated Vassar 7-0 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in the morning, and then traveled to Pasadena where they picked up a 6-1 win over Caltech in its conference opener on Saturday.
With the two wins, CMS now stands at 7-1 on the season, after winning the ITA Indoor Nationals last weekend to move up to the top spot in the national rankings.
CMS dominated in doubles against Vassar, with
Bell Zhou and
Leah Baroudi winning 6-0 at No. 3 and
Lindsay Eisenman and
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne earning a 6-0 win at No. 2 as well.
Ananya Sriniketh and
Rebecca Kong closed out the sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 1.
Singles had a few more competitive matches, with
Lindsay Eisenman going to three sets at No. 1, dropping a first set tiebreaker to Erin McCusker, and then coming back for a 6-7, 6-1, 10-5 win.
Rachel Garton also had a tight battle at No. 4, pulling out a 7-5, 7-6 win with a a7-4 victory in the second set tiebreaker.
Zhou also won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, Baroudi earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3, Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and
Georgia Garrett earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6.
In the Caltech match, Eisenman and Kong earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 for the doubles point, and Sriniketh and Zhou won at No. 3 and Caltech earned a win at No. 2.
The Athenas had Garton earn the first win in singles, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5, followed by Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4,
Shifali Dinesh earned the clinch with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, and
Macy Garwood followed with a straight set win at No. 6 (6-4, 7-5).
Caltech earned its lone win from Carissa Gerung in a 14-12 third-set tiebreaker at No. 1, while
Ananya Sriniketh came back for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at No. 2.
CMS will be back in action when it takes on Bowdoin and Concordia Irvine next Saturday.
