AZUSA, Calif. -
Josh Jacobs was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team, but Whitworth was able to break the open in the middle innings and salvage the final game of the four-game series with a 19-6 win on Sunday at Cougar Baseball Stadium.
CMS moves to 9-4 on the season with the loss, including a 3-1 record against Whitworth this weekend, which improves to 7-11 with the win. The Stags have won all four series they have had so far, including taking two of three from Mary Hardin-Baylor, Occidental and Chapman.
The Stags trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, and tied it in the bottom half, as
Alex Henderson singled to help load the bases.
Carter Bennett walked and
Jett Shue was hit by a pitch to drive in runs, and
Max Pemberton tied it with a sacrifice fly.
Whitworth, though, scored eight times in the fourth to break it open. Jacobs hit his third collegiate homer, and
Charlie Kalil,
Thomas Worth and
Austin Xu strung together singles in the seventh to account for the final CMS runs.
CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to the Tucson Invitational Games, opening up against Hamline on Friday.
