CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Ellis DelVecchio of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, April 12, the SCIAC office announced today.
DelVecchio jumped to third in the 800 meters in Division III so far this year by running a 1:50.13 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. He finished second at the meet, behind only Colton Plummer of Division II Simon Fraser, and was only .34 off his PR set last year to qualify for the NCAAs.
It marks the second week in a row that the Stags have earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week, after
Pierce Clark earned it last week, also for his performance in the 800 meters.
Jaden Rattay also earned it back on Feb. 9 for his performance in the 400 meters, while
Kaden Cassidy earned the Field Athlete of the Week on March 23 for his performance in the hammer throw.
CMS will split its squad this week at several different events as it gears up for the SCIAC Championship in two weeks, including the Mt. SAC Relays, the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Pacific Coast Intercollegiatge, the Beach Invitational, and the La Verne Invitational.
