CMS Women's Lacrosse Dominates Occidental, Sets Up Battle for First at Pomona-Pitzer

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Ella Seidel had four goals and four assists, and Kate Larson and Ella Brown each had four goals and an assist, to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team to a 19-2 road win over Occidental on Saturday. 

With the win, CMS moves to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the SCIAC, setting up a battle for first on Wednesday night at 8-0 Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens won the first meeting by two goals (10-8), which would give the Athenas the chance to take over the inside track for the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament if it wins by three or more. 

The Athenas led 6-1 after the first quarter and 13-1 at the half as it jumped ahead early and pulled away. Seidel scored the game's first two goals, and Grace Minturn and Amelia Ulmer followed with tallies to make ot 4-0 at the 7:33 mark of the first quarter. 

After Occidental scored to make it 4-1, CMS scored 15 goals in a row, before Occidental had the game's final tally. Ulmer had three goals and Maya Mihara added two. 

Julia Ryan had 19 draw controls to give her 801 in her career, setting the all-divisions record for career draws as only a junior. She broke the Division III record on Wednesday night at home against Redlands, and then passed the Division I record as well on Saturday. Kate Risse led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Lyla Johnston had three saves and Sanya Arora aded three in goal. 

CMS will travel across Sixth Street to face Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, and then close out the regular season on Saturday against Chapman at 1 p.m., which will also be the program's Senior Day.
