Whittier, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Whittier on Friday afternoon to move to 20-1 on the season, including 20 straight wins since an opening day defeat to Division I UC Riverside.
The Athenas dropped only two games on the day, with
Shifali Dinesh and
Macy Garwood both winning 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
Rachel Garton earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1, and
Georgia Garrett picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Garton and Garwood also picked up a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Garrett and
Rebecca Kong earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne and
Leah Baroudi won by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, while Baroudi and
Bell Zhou earned a default win at No. 3 doubles.
The shutout moves CMS to 6-0 on the season in SCIAC, setting up a battle for the regular season title against 6-0 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
