CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Leah Baroudi of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, April 26, the conference office announced today.
Baroudi won in both singles and doubles as the Athenas took a 5-2 win over Pomona-Pitzer in a battle for the regular season SCIAC title. She won her doubles match 7-5 at No. 3 with
Bell Zhou, although the Sagehens won the doubles point, and then gave CMS the lead in the match 2-1 with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles, winning the second-set tiebreaker 7-3 to help swing the momentum to the CMS side.
Baroudi becomes the third Athena to win the award this season, joining
Rebecca Kong, who earned it after helping the Athenas to the title at the ITA Indoor Championships, and
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne, who picked it up on March 23 after going 4-0 on the week in singles and doubles, as the top-ranked Athenas earned wins over No. 14 Amherst and No. 3 Chicago.
CMS will be back in action on Thursday for the SCIAC Semifinals against Caltech. A win and the Athenas would then host the SCIAC Championship match on Saturday.
