CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –
Lindsay Eisenman and
Leah Baroudi won in both singles and doubles as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team took a 4-0 win over Bowdoin in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on Monday at the Champions Club Tennis Center.
With the win, CMS improves to 26-1 on the year and remains undefeated against Division III teams, with the only loss coming in January to Division I UC Riverside. The Athenas have won 26 in a row since that defeat (a 4-3 loss when they played without Eisenman).
The Athenas controlled doubles, with
Leah Baroudi and
Bell Zhou earning a 6-3 win at No. 3, followed by Lindsey Eisenman earning a deuce point up 5-3 to take a 6-3 win and secure the doubles point. Ananya Srinketh and
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne were on two match points when their match was halted, leading 5-4 and 40-30.
Baroudi then came through with a dominant performance at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win to give the Athenas a 2-0 lead. Kong and Zhou both won tight 7-5 first sets at No. 2 and No. 4 to keep momentum with the Athenas.
Eisenman earned a 6-3 first set at No. 1, and then swung the second set with a break to get back level 3-3, followed by a service hold at love to take a 4-3 lead. She then finished off a 6-4 second-set win to give CMS a 3-0 lead.
Moments later, Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne finished off her match with featured some big momentum swings at No. 6. She captured the first set 6-0, then fell 6-1 in the second, but regrouped quickly to win the third set 6-0, taking a deuce point up 5-0 to clinch the match and send CMS through to the semifinals.
Zhou was closing in on a win at No. 4 when her match was abandoned, holding a 7-5, 4-0 lead, while Kong was in a tight second set, down 5-3, and Sriniketh was battling to try to split at No. 3, down 6-5 in the second.
CMS will advance to tomorrow's semifinals against Wesleyan, which defeated Washington & Lee 4-0 to advance. That match will take place no earlier than 5 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Pacific) after the men's tennis quarterfinals take place at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
