Sidney Smith Promoted to Full-Time Assistant Coach Role with Athenas Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sidney Smith, who served as a student assistant coach for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball program in 2024-25, and as a part-time assistant coach in 2025-26, has been promoted to a full-time role as an assistant coach and athletic operations assistant in 2026-27, CMS announced today.

In his first year as on official staff member in 2025-26, Smith helped the Athenas to their first SCIAC Tournament title in nine years. CMS finished 20-8 in 2025-26, a 10-year improvement from the year before, and were just one game behind regular season champion Cal Lutheran in the standings, before defeating the Regals in the conference finals.

In his role as a student assistant in 2024-25, Smith helped conduct scouting reports, provide in-game insights and adjustments, and conducted individual player and group workouts to enhance skill development.

Smith graduated from Claremont McKenna in 2025 with a degree in science management with a sequence in environmental analysis. In addition to his coaching duties, Smith will assist with games management for other CMS events when the Athenas are not in season.
