WHEATON, Ill. - Hampus Fogerlberg headed in a corner kick with 38 seconds left in regulation as the North Park men's soccer team earned a 1-1 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the first day of the Bob Baptista Invitational hosted by Wheaton College on Friday.
The loss was the first of the season for the Stags, who slip to 3-1 on the year, while North Park improves to 2-1-1 with the win.
CMS took 11 shots in the second half, four on frame, but were unable to get one past Vikings goalkeeper Arvi Skoglund.
Sean Lee had two of those shots on target, out of his four for the game, while
Clayton Thomas and
Collin Ross had one shot saved apiece.
The Stags stayed in a 0-0 contest after North Park missed on a penalty kick in the 61st minute that hit off the cross bar. Moments after,
Samir Bouhamama had his shot saved out for a corner kick, and CMS had a sequence of five shots in five minutes, where it seemed like it the Stags were seizing momentum.
The Vikings got momentum back though, as
Axel Jimenez had three saves for CMS in the final 11 minutes, before the corner kick produced the game-winner.
The Stags will be back in action tomorrow when they take on host Wheaton at 7 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Pacific).
