WHEATON, Ill. -
Matteo Quadrini and
Clayton Thomas came off the bench to score second-half goals as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to come away with a 2-2 tie at Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday evening.
With the tie, CMS moves to 3-1-1 on the year at the conclusion of non-conference play, while Wheaton moves to 1-3-1.
The Stags controlled play for most of the contest, finishing with a 27-13 edge in shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks. However, Isaac Lucas scored late in the first half for Wheaton in the 41st minute and then added another in the 55th minute to make the score 2-0.
Quadrini started the comeback for CMS with 24:25 remaining when he volleyed a shot into the top-right corner off a cross from
Jaishan Sharma.
Daniel Zhu also started the play with a through ball to Sharma and earned an assist on the play as well.
With 3:44 to go, Thomas found the equalizer when he got a rebound in front of the net after a shot from
Bo Gardner was saved off of a Stag corner kick. CMS has to withstand one last Wheaton push in the final minute as the Thunder got a shot off a late corner kick, but the shot was blocked and time ran out with the score 2-2.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it opens SCIAC play with a home game against Whittier at 7 p.m. at Nakasone Field.
