NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Zoe Silver scored the game's only goal midway through the first half as the Carleton women's soccer team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
The loss was the first of the season for the Athenas, who slip to 2-1-1 overall on the year, while Carleton improves to 1-1.
CMS held a 10-7 edge in shots, but the Knights converted on their only shot on frame. Avery Trapp made three saves to get the shutout for Carleton, with
Flora Glantz taking two of them, both of which were early in the second half as the Athenas tried to push hard for the equalizer after intermission.
In the second half, in fact, CMS had an 8-2 edge in shots, with
Jesselyn Lee also having one saved in the 73rd minute. Glantz had the final effort in the 87th minute, but the Athenas ended up on the short end of the 1-0 final.
CMS will be back in action on Sunday when it takes on Macalaster on the second day of its two-game Minnesota trip.
