CLAREMONT, Calif. - A total of 10 Athenas and Stags will become the newest members of the Ted Ducey Hall of Fame at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, when the Class of 2027 is honored on Sunday, Jan. 24 at Roberts Pavilion as part of the Hall of Fame weekend.

The 10 inductees into the Ted Ducey CMS Hall of Fame Class of 2027 are Skyler Butts (CMC '16 – Tennis), Megan Coleman (CMC '15 – Volleyball),  Morgan Cummins (CMC '07 – Baseball),  Joe Dorn (CMC '15 – Tennis), Candace Filippelli (CMC '16 – Water Polo), Dave Flatten (CMC '80 - Football), Rebecca Hebert (Scripps '92 – Swim/Dive, Water Polo), Tara Robinson (CMC '16 – Softball), Shina Thavanthana (CMC '91 – Softball), and Frederic Winssinger (CMC '90 - Golf)

As part of the weekend's Hall of Fame festivities, CMS will also honor the 2017 volleyball team on the tenth anniversary of their NCAA Division III Championship, the first in program history.

Skyler Butts (CMC '16)
Tennis
Butts was a key part of the CMS men's tennis national championship team in 2015, which earned the second NCAA Division III title in the history of both Stags tennis and the CMS athletic department. He then added an NCAA singles title in 2016 to cap off his career, after falling in the 2015 singles championship match to teammate Warren Wood.  Butts finished his career with a 128-19 singles record and a 125-30 doubles record, with his 253 career combined wins and his .838 combined winning percentage both CMS records that still hold by wide margins. He was a three-time All-American in singles, and became the first player to ever win three straight Ojai Division III doubles championships. Butts was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the ITA Senior Athlete of the Year as a senior. 

Megan Coleman (CMC '15)
Volleyball
Coleman was the starting libero on a CMS volleyball team that made history in 2014 by winning an NCAA Regional and advancing to nationals for the first time. She was the MVP of the 2014 regional tournament, when she recorded 40 digs in a five-set win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, 42 digs in a five-set win over Colorado College and 34 digs in a four-set win over Trinity. Coleman's 729 digs as a senior is 120 more than any other Athena player has ever recorded, and she finished her career with 2121 digs, which broke the old program record by 700 and still ranks second in CMS history.  She was a three-time first-team All-SCIAC selection, and after an injury-plagued sophomore season, she bounced back to earn first-team all-region and honorable mention All-America honors as both a junior and senior.

Morgan Cummins (CMC '07)
Baseball
Cummins had a standout career for the CMS baseball team from 2004-07, earning All-SCIAC honors all four years, including three appearances on the first team. As a senior, he was a first-team All-America selection at catcher by D3baseball.com, and was a first-team all-region selection by both D3baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was also an ABCA second-team all-region selection as a junior, while earning Team MVP honors three times. Cummins had a career batting average of .377, which included hitting .444 as a senior with 52 runs scored and 40 runs batted in, on his way to All-America honors. He also added a .378 campaign as a junior with nine homers and 34 RBI, and played in the Florida Marlins organization after he graduated. Cummins then spent two years as an assistant coach with the Stags, and then served as the interim head coach during the 2015 season.

Joe Dorn (CMC '15)
Tennis
Dorn concluded his tennis career by winning the NCAA team championship and the NCAA doubles championship in 2015, helping the Stags to their second national title in program history. He compiled a 49-8 record during the national championship season, including 33-4 in doubles and 16-4 in singles. Perhaps the only thing that prevented him from winning the career triple crown was that he fell to his own teammate (and doubles partner) Warren Wood in the semifinals of the singles championship in 2014. Dorn earned ITA All-America honors all three seasons he competed with the Stags, including both singles and doubles as a junior. He had a career record of 90-27 in doubles and 57-21 in singles, and was a first-team All-SCIAC selection all three seasons he played with the Stags.

Candace Filippelli (CMC '14)
Water Polo
Filippelli was the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division III National Player of the Year in 2014, when she also earned SCIAC Player of the Year honors for the Athenas. During her career, she was a four-time first-team ACWPC Division III All-America selection, as well as a four-time first-team All-SCIAC honoree. As a junior and senior, Filippelli led CMS to two straight 9-2 records in SCIAC, which was the program's highest winning percentage in conference play since 1997. During her senior year, she also helped elevate the Athenas to a No. 1 national ranking, which was the first time CMS had topped the national polls since 2006. In addition to her athletic honors, she was also a four-year member of the ACWPC Scholar All-America team.

Dave Flatten (CMC '80)
Football
Flatten was a central figure in the 1979 SCIAC Championship season for the CMS football team during his senior campaign, when he was voted as the team's top defensive lineman and earned first-team All-SCIAC honors. He was also a first-team All-SCIAC selection as a junior in 1978, and earned second-team honors in his first season with the Stags in 1977. Flatten's contributions were a major part in elevating the program from a 1-7 season in 1977 to a SCIAC title in 1979, which was the program's second conference championship ever, and first in nine years. Flatten's influence behind the scenes was also an enormous factor in the program's rise, as he served as a player-recruiter, enticing several student-athletes to attend Claremont McKenna who were key parts of the title-winning team.

Rebecca Hebert (Scripps '92)
Swimming & Diving/Water Polo
Hebert was a standout on the CMS women's swimming and diving team, and also served as a foundational athlete in women's water polo. The Athenas were a club water polo team during Hebert's career, and she was considered the top field player on the squad. As a senior, Hebert helped CMS to a Collegiate II National Championship, which helped elevate the program to varsity status by 1994. As a member of the swimming and diving team, she was the SCIAC Champion in the 200-yard butterfly and was a three-time All-SCIAC selection. She was also a three-time NCAA qualifier from 1989-91 and was named the Scripps Athlete of the Year as a senior. When she graduated in 1992, she held the program record in the 500 free, and was part of CMS records in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.  

Tara Robinson (CMC '16)
Softball
Robinson was a key part of a CMS softball team that made program history during her four-year career. She was a back-to-back SCIAC Athlete of the Year honoree in 2014 and 2015, a three-time All-Region selection, and a four-time All-SCIAC honoree. As a sophomore, she helped the Athenas to their first NCAA Regional title and first Super Regional appearance in program history, hitting .600 (6-for-10) in the regionals, including 3-for-3 in a 2-1 win over Linfield. As a senior, she was a vital cog in a team that set a program record for wins in a season with 37, and hit 9-for-19 in a five-game NCAA Regional. Robinson set a CMS record for batting average in a season (.492) in 2015, and still holds program records for hits in a season (70) and career (245) and runs in a career (179), while ranking second in CMS history with a .415 career batting average.

Shina Thavanthana (CMC '91)
Softball
Thavanthana was a foundational member of the CMS softball program and helped get the program get off to a very strong start. She pitched and played outfield for the CMS club team as a freshman and sophomore, studied abroad as a junior, and then returned as a senior for one season at the varsity level, making the most of her one opportunity.  Thavanthana earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Year Award in her senior season, winning 20 games in the circle and leading CMS to the SCIAC title in its second season, one year after going 6-32 in its inaugural campaign. Thavanthana still remains one of only two pitchers to record a 20-win season in program history. She also had a SCIAC record of 16-4, and pitched a shutout in a 4-0 win over La Verne that clinched the first-ever conference title for the newly-formed softball program.

Frederic Winssinger (CMC '90)
Golf
Winssinger was a transformative figure in Stags Golf, becoming the first Division III All-American in program history as a junior, and then repeating the feat again as a senior. As a junior, he qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual and finished tenth to earn second-team All-America honors. As a senior, Winssinger was able to bring his teammates to nationals with him after leading the Stags to their first SCIAC title in 19 years, winning his second straight individual SCIAC title in the process. The 1990 team earned the program's first-ever team qualification to nationals, where they earned a solid 13th-place finish and laid the groundwork for a program that would later go on to win two national championships (2016, 2026). Winssinger was a two-time SCIAC Athlete of the Year honoree, and three-time All-SCIAC selection during his three seasons with the Stags.
