RIVERSIDE, Calif. - First-year Isla Duncan finished in 12th overall out of 269 runners in a largely Division I field, tying for the fourth-fastest time in CMS women's cross country history with a 20:37.6, to highlight the Athenas' performance at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning. 

CMS finished in ninth overall out of 30 teams at the event, with the eight teams in front (UC Irvine, CSU Fullerton, Biola, Southern Utah, Hawai'i, California Baptist, Cal Poly Pomona and Sacramento State) all Division I or Division II. UC Santa Cruz was the second-highest Division III finisher in 18th place, while Pomona-Pitzer was 23rd. 

Duncan's 20:37.6 matched the time set by Riley Harmon on the same course in 2021, and places her only 6.6 seconds behind the all-time fastest run of 20:31.0, set by Meredith Bloss that same year. 

Brannan Rosenfeld was the second-fastest Athena at the meet, finishing in 21:03.3, which moves her into 11th all-time at CMS. Olivia Backholm ran a 21:09.0 to move her up to 14th, and taking 31 seconds off her previous best set at Riverside last year. Jie Yi Denise Chen had a 21:24.7 to take four seconds off of her best time and move up to 17th at CMS, while Nevis Murphy was right behind as the fifth scorer for CMS in 21:25.6, which places her 18th in Athena annals.

Kylie Brunelli moved into the top 30 at CMS with a 21:38.4, which places her 29th, taking just over seven seconds off her best time set two weeks ago at the Coyote Challenge. Julieta Ochoa moves into 36th place at CMS with a 21:48.6. 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Minnesota.
