REDLANDS, Calif. -
Lexie Roth scored in the first minute, and
Kateri Trujillo scored in the 90th minute, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team controlled play from start to finish as it took a 3-0 road win over Redlands on Wednesday.
Ava Allen added her second goal of the season early in the second half for CMS, which outshot Redlands 44-2 as it improves to 5-2-2 overall on the season, and 2-1-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands slips to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the SCIAC with the loss.
CMS struck first just 56 seconds into the game, when
Jordan Yates played a long ball from midfield over the top of the Redlands defense. Roth got on the back end, and was able to shield a Bulldog defender from the ball, before slotting home a shot for her third goal of the year.
Just over six minutes into the second half, the Athenas doubled their lead when
Ruby Fragola sent a cross in from the right side of the box.
Elsie Lindeman won the battle in the middle, and laid the ball back to Allen, who one timed a low shot inside the far post to put the Athenas ahead 2-0.
Trujillo then finished off the scoring with 20 seconds left when she scored from the right side of the box after passes from
Annika Marshall and Jamir Mitsuyoshi. It was her first goal since her rookie season, after missing all of last year with a knee injury.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Chapman for a 7 p.m. contest.
