CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore kicker Sean Lee and sophomore linebacker Joseph Kessler earned two of the spots on the D3football.com National Team of the Week for games through Sunday, Sept. 27, the website announced this morning. 

Lee earned the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week and Kessler earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor, and both doubled their awards haul with national honors from D3football.com. 

Lee made a CMS-record five field goals in a 22-10 win over Pomona-Pitzer, outscoring the Sagehens 16-10 by himself, including his extra point. The old program record of three field goals had been set 11 times, and Lee matched that in the third quarter to help the Stags to a 16-3 lead. After Pomona-Pitzer pulled within 16-10, Lee hit his longest and biggest field goal of the night when he converted from 46 yards with 2:47 to go to make it a two-possession game at 19-10 and set the program record with his fourth of the game. After the Sagehens turned it over on downs, he added a fifth from 40 yards to make the final 22-10. 

Kessler was a big part of the defensive effort that helped hold Pomona-Pitzer to 10 points, tying for team high honors with 14 tackles. He had some key plays in big spots, including stuffing a run for no gain to end the first Sagehen possession. He also had a fourth-down sack on an attempted trick play from the Sagehens late in the first half, and made a tackle short of the first on third down in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. 

CMS will be back in action this weekend at Rogan Stadium when it hosts Cal Lutheran for a 1 p.m. contest at Rogan Stadium.
