Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jeffrey Koretz scored with 1:03 left in the first sudden-death overtime session to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team a 13-12 win over Biola to close out the Inland Empire Classic on Saturday at Axelrood Pool. 

The Stags began the tournament with a sudden-death overtime defeat to No. 13 UC Santa Barbara 11-10, and then also fell to DI teams CSU Fullerton (13-10) and UC Irvine (12-5) before breaking into the win column with its dramatic win over Biola. 

Nick Kennedy had four goals against Biola, getting CMS started with the first two goals of the game. Koretz scored to make it 3-1, before five different Stags scored in a 5-0 run to make it 8-3 early in the second half, with Fletcher Appeldorn, Gavin Netherton, Jack Balas, Hassen Hove and Koretz scoring in succession. 

Biola fought all the way back to tie it at 9-9, before Calvin Donat gave the Stags back the lead. Biola forced the overtime with 1:57 left, and Kennedy twice gave CMS the lead, only to have the Eagles answer each time. In sudden death overtime, Koretz was able to get his third goal of the contest to have the Stags close out with a win. 

Connor Burks had seven saves to get the win in goal, while Weston Hartel had four assists and three steals for the Stags. 

CMS nearly opened the tourney with a win against No. 13 UC Santa Barbara, as Kennedy, Koretz and Jack Bryant scored in success to put CMS in front 8-7. The Gauchos answered with 5:24 left, and neither team scored in the remainder of regulation.

After UC Santa Barbara went ahead 10-8 in the first overtime, CMS scored twice in the second extra session, as Koretz and Hartel both scored on 6-on-5 opportunities, before the Gauchos were able to escape with the win 1:21 in sudden death. 

Evan Liberatore had three goals for CMS in his first career game at Axelrood, while Koretz also had three goals, and Kennedy had two goals and two assists. 

Kennedy. Donat, Hartel and Stryker Scales each had two goals in the defeat to CSU Fullerton, while Kennedy scored three times in the loss to UC Irvine, along with Jack Balas and Fletcher Appeldorn. 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks at the MPSF Tournament hosted by Stanford.
