Athenas Volleyball Picks Up Two Dominant Wins to Close out Pacific Coast Classic

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team moved to 3-0 on the year with dominant straight-set wins over North Central and Lasell on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Pavilion. 

CMS defeated North Central 25-17, 25-16, 25-12 and then earned a 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 win over Lasell. The Athenas won its first set against Westminster (Mo.) last night 25-20, and has not allowed more than 17 points in any of its eight sets since. 

Phoebe Shorney had 13 kills in 17 attempts against Lasell, hitting .647, while Stella Gajar had nine kills in 10 attempts. As a team, CMS hit .493, putting down 39 kills with only six errors on the evening, while also recording 10 blocks defensively, led by four apiece from Shorney, Gajar, Ashlee Sento and Solvej Eversoll

In the North Central match, Elise Arends had 21 digs from her libero position and added four aces, while Lauren Staples had 10 kills in 16 attempts, while Delany had 10 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. Hayden Lin had 21 assists and Samantha Riter had 18, while Gajar had five blocks and Shorney had 10 kills as well. 

CMS will be back in action when it travels to Emory to participate in the East-West Battle, meeting WashU on Friday and Colby and East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
