CMS traveled to Whittier College to face the Poets on Friday and came back with a pair of emphatic victories. CMS won all 25 swimming and diving events contested on the day with the Athenas winning 188-24 and the Stags winning 183-40.

Nine separate Athenas won individual events on the day.  Sophomore Heidi Wolfgruber (New Canaan, CT) led the way, taking the 200 IM and 100 breast.  Both events were 1-2-3 sweeps for CMS.  Senior Danielle Peebles (La Mesa) took the 100 freestyle and sophomore Teija Mortvedt (Bremerton, WA) earned first in the three-meter diving competition.  Following that veteran lead, five different first-year performers won events.  Emma Jones (Eugene, OR [pictured]) won the 200 free, Elica Sharifnia (Beaverton, OR) the 50 free, Katie Bilotti (Orinda) the 100 fly, Amy Tresenrider (Sebastopol) the 500 free and Lauren Yeske (Oak Park, IL) one-meter diving.

Bilotti and Jones were triple winners on the day, swimming legs in the victorious 200 medley relay (Tresenrider, Ching Tung (FR, Hong Kong, China), Bilotti, Jones) and the 200 free relay (Bilotti, Whitney Dawson (FR, Portland, OR), Sharifnia, Jones).

The Stags found similar success.  Austin Hallett (FR, Bainbridge Island, WA [pictured]) won the 50 free and 100 back for CMS.  Fellow frosh Brant Kersten (Bellevue, WA) 1000 freestyle), Vincent Pai (Walnut, 200 IM), and Brendan Huss (Omaha, NE 100 Fly) also posted strong times.  Sophomores Ian McGinnity (Mesa, AZ, 200 free), Ryan Kristensen (Saugus, 100 free), Nick Ostreim (Phoenix, AZ, 500 free) and Garrett Smith (Goleta, three-meter diving), joined seniors Ryan Toohey (Rocklin, 100 breast) and Dan Kan (Seattle, WA, one-meter diving) as victors.  Rounding out the events were the relay teams of Toohey, Brian Li (SO, Hong Kong, China), Huss, John Sloat (SR, Lafayette) [200 medley relay] and Pai, Hallett, Brian Nadler (SO, Davis), Kristensen [200 free relay].

Both CMS teams will be back in action on Saturday, January 17 at the Axelrood pool vs. California Lutheran University.
