SURPRISE, Ariz. - With play suspended in the middle of the second round, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team stands in fourth place at the Ottawa (Ariz.) Fall Invitational on Monday afternoon at the Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club.
Ottawa, which is ranked No. 3 in NAIA, has the top two teams in the field, with its 'B' team ahead of its 'A' team by one stroke (-10 to -9), Arizona Chrisitian is in third place at -2, followed by CMS in fourth at +2, with a dropoff to +15 for fifth palce Lewis-Clark State.
Vikram Chatterjee stands in fourth on the individual leaderboard behind three players from host Ottawa, rebounding from some early struggles with an impressive run of play. Chatterjee began on the second hole, and had bogeys on 5-8 to slip to +3 through seven holes played, but he bounced back to play the back nine at -4, and pick up another birdie on the first hole (his 18th) to finish with a 70 (-2). He picked up where he left off on his second round, playing his first 11 holes at -2, with two birdies and nine pars before play was suspended.
Riley Lai stands in a tie for ninth place at even par through 28 holes, at one point rattling off four birdies in a span of five holes for the Stags. Yuefeng (Michael) Ma bounced back from a 77 in his first round, and a bogey on his first hole on the second round, to tally four birdies in a span of seven holes to surge up to +2 and a tie for 11th place. Kevin Jiang was also at -1 in his second round when play stopped.
The second round will be completed tomorrow morning, before the third and final round will begin.
