CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Samson Li of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, March 22, the conference office announced today.
Li earned a top-10 finish (ninth) out of 150 golfers at the Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend, helping the Stags finish fifth out of 30 times. He finished his 54 holes at -9, including an opening round 66 on Friday (-6), and a -3 on his final round on Sunday to help CMS move up to fifth in the final standings.
It marks the second time this season that Li has earned the SCIAC Award. He also took it after winning individual medalist honors at the West Coast Invitational, which included a program-record tying 64 on the second day.
Ryan Liang has also earned the honor for the Stags after helping CMS to the title at SCIAC No. 1.
CMS will next be in action at SCIAC No. 2, which will be held April 3-4 at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont.
