CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore
Ryan Liang of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, February 22, the conference office announced today.
Liang had the best tournament and the best round of his young career to help CMS dominate the first SCIAC regular season tournament by 27 strokes over sedcond-place Cal Lutheran. He was the runner-up on the individual leaderboard at -5, just one shot behind teammate
Samson Li, after a 70-69-139. His previous low round on a par-72 was a 70 last season, when he had his best tournament performance at +3 at the Westmont Invitational. He also was -1 (69) in a dual with La Verne in the fall.
Liang becomes the second straight winner for the Stags, after Li earned it last week, following a seven-shot win at the West Coast Invite at -10, including a program-record tying -8 (64) in the second round.
CMS will be back in action next month when it travels to the Jekyll Island Invitational.
