CLAREMONT, Calif. - Caelan Jones of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Jan. 7, the conference office announced today.
Jones earned the honor after having a big role in a pair of CMS conference wins. He had 14 points in an overtime win over Redlands on Wednesday, coming alive down the stretch with some huge baskets. Jones shot 4-4 from the three-point line in the final 6:37 of regulation and overtime, knocking down three in regulation and putting CMS ahead by five with another trey in the extra session.
Jones followed that performance up by notching a career-high with 25 points in Saturday's win over Caltech, hitting four more three-pointers and shooting 10-19 from the floor.
Jones becomes the second Stag to earn the honor this season, after Rhett Carter captured it on Dec. 10 following a big performance in a win over Cal Lutheran.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest.
